Dodgers Linked to 3 All-Star Second Baseman in Potential Blockbuster Trades

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of just three teams in Major League Baseball with double-digit victories, but they are already showing clear gaps where they can improve.

Since spring training, there have been murmurs about what the second base and center field positions would look like. Tommy Edman is an All-Star who is more than capable at either defensive spot, but can only play one at a time.

After just 15 games this season, some around the league believe it’s time for a change.

A name that was supposed to be the everyday man at second is Hyeseong Kim. The four-time Korean Baseball Organization Gold Glove award winner signed a three-year, $12.5 million offseason deal, but due to his offensive struggles this spring, has yet to debut in MLB.

Andy Pages, the current center fielder in L.A., is not only struggling on defense but has had a tough time with his bat. He is hitting .159 with 18 strikeouts through 14 games so far.

Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller has theorized a few potential trade targets that the Dodgers can go for to slide Edman back to center field and input a new second baseman for the defending champs.

The first name Miller floated was Brandon Lowe. An above-average hitter, Lowe is currently batting .271/.294/.458 with an OPS of .752 this season.

As for the Dodgers’ defensive struggles, Lowe may not be the man for the job as he has a career -9 Outs Above Average at second base, but his offense would be more than welcomed for the right price.

The next candidate is Gleyber Torres. He is a career .266 hitter but is coming off an atrocious defensive campaign with the New York Yankees.

He, too, put up a negative number in Outs Above Average, finishing 2024 with a -7 OAA.

Lastly, Miller theorized that a deal with the rival San Diego Padres could be actualized as he listed Luis Arraez as a potential suitor.

The three-time batting champion is mostly used as a first baseman for the Friars but has logged over 300 games at second base in his baseball life. He is a career .322 hitter and would be a perfect addition to the high-powered Dodgers lineup.

However, it would be very unlikely that San Diego would be interested in trading a player to improve the Dodgers’ title chances. Thus, Lowe and Torres make more sense if L.A. is even interested in adding a second baseman before the deadline.
