When Will Blake Treinen Return to Dodgers Following Unfortunate Update?

If you’re hoping to see Blake Treinen on the mound anytime soon, you’ll be disappointed by the recent update.

On Thursday, the Dodgers transferred Treinen to the 60-day injured list. The electric 36-year-old pitcher has been shut down for over two weeks after experiencing forearm tightness in a game versus the Chicago Cubs on April 13. Now, he’ll be out much longer than the minimum 15-day IL stint.

With Treinen sidelined so early in the year, manager Dave Roberts indicated this week that there’s no real need to push him back into action considering his age and history of various arm injuries.

“I think with Blake (Treinen), just appreciating the fact that we’re going to need him in the second half and beyond, we have time so take the time that way when he gets back, we can just go from there and not look back,” Roberts said.

This bigger picture philosophy is something the Dodgers have utilized for years and years under the current regime. The most important thing is getting these players healthy for the postseason run. The franchise is confident enough in the depth built up collectively that injuries and extended IL stints can be mitigated accordingly.

In other words, even if an older player/injury-prone player can come back, there’s a willingness to let them get as much rest and recovery as possible based on how deep and talented the team is as currently constituted.

That’s not to say Treinen isn’t missed. He’s still one of the more dominant relievers in the game of baseball.

Treinen was heavily taxed during last year’s World Series run. As a result, it’s not overly surprising to see him suffering a bit from some wear and tear. The Dodgers will give Treinen all the time he needs to make sure he’s ready to go in October.
